So why is it, that on probably the busiest day (Saturday) of the week for DIY enthusiasts, do timber yards close at around midday?
Am I the only person to question this? Is it me? It seems bizarre ... no wonder B&Q and Homebase do so well.

Its becuse you as an amateur (no insult intended) only want 3 metres of 2" by 3". Timber yards sell to professionals who want far larger quantities and who don't work Saturday afternoons. Know your limitations and stick to B&Q:^)

Ha! You would have thought I'd have learnt that one when I started the 2 year project to tile the kitchen.... ah well.... this one is relatively small....as if!
BUT (and I understand what you are saying)..... I was in at the yard on Saturday morning and it was busy.... also.... the timber yard has greater choice....FAR happier to serve you and cut wood....more knowledgeable....they're local.
Oh and I like the smell of freshly sawn wood
;-)
